The world is at stake. Hidden forces have infiltrated society at every level, shaping and twisting it to their own ends. Powerful as they are, Justina and Liza are caught up in the supernatural war of dragonkind, forced to decide once and for all where their loyalties truly lie. As Liza finds herself ensnared by the lure of her newfound powers, her sense of morality becomes darker and more warped than ever before – it seems that power truly is one of humankind’s greatest corruptors. Once an innocent young girl, unaware of the magical realities underlying her blissfully ignorant life, Liza is overcome by the temptations presented by Zoldon, realising the extent of her powers is far greater than she could have ever expected. She has become his apprentice, agreeing that free will is not what allows humanity to do evil – it is free will that is evil itself. And she will do whatever she can to eliminate that evil altogether.

Justina, however, finds herself confronted with a new challenge. Her conscience is torn between what she believes she must do for humanity’s sake, and where her heart truly lies. Perhaps it is jealousy that begins to divide her from Liza, or simply the pain and torment presented by Zoldon’s crusade against his humankind-loving brother, Raphael, who had disappeared once Liza left him for Zoldon – regardless, Justina finds the weight of her actions bears down on her greater than ever before. She desperately holds onto Zoldon’s mission – the eradication of free will is a necessary step to prevent humankind from destroying itself, she tells herself. But watching Zoldon and his soldiers – and Liza, herself – slaughtering innocent dragons jars her. The cries of confused, helpless, baby dragons echoes through her mind, making her question the tactics she once deemed necessary.

Zoldon, nonetheless, wages war on his brother’s childish morals, killing anyone that stands in his path of total domination. His plan stretches far beyond ruling through fear, however – his influence reaches as far as the Western political powers themselves, with even the British Prime Minister revealing herself to be in support of his mission. An intelligent, calculating woman, her partnership with Zoldon is an uneasy one, yet seemingly unavoidable.
